To the Yale Community:
As you may have heard, there was a horrific shooting this morning at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. We do not know of any Yale faculty or staff who have children in that school. However, there are close to 40 members of our community who live in Newtown, and many more of us have friends who live there.
Many support services are available on campus for those who are affected by this tragedy and others who are understandably deeply shaken. Please do not hesitate to ask for any help needed to cope with this deeply difficult situation.  Battell Chapel will be open from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. this afternoon for those who want a quiet space; and the full complement of counseling services is available.  New Haven Interfaith Cooperative Ministries is organizing a candlelight vigil tomorrow night, December 15, at 6 p.m. around the flag pole on the New Haven Green.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost family and friends.
